These are painted areas of the real Berlin Wall. They have a 1000 meters part of wall still standing for people to see. Much of the full wall was painted like this. I know because I lived there for 10 years before the wall fell.

The Dead

The rose colored spots on the years are for the number of people that died in that year trying to reach freedom.

In the one wall picture you can see a steel door or gate. The USSR had these in many area's of the wall with guards on their side but it gave them a way in and out of the city if they choose. I know but can't say how we handled our side.
